Setting up passwordless sign-in experience

TECHNICAL WRITING

Project Overview

Okta introduced a groundbreaking feature that enables administrators to offer end users the option of passwordless sign-in or eliminate the need for passwords altogether.

Challenges

The project was challenging due to the prevalent use of passwords as an authenticator.  Transitioning away from password-based authentication necessitated effective communication with administrators to ensure a seamless shift. The configuration process included navigation across multiple menus within the Admin Console, introducing complexities and further complicating the user experience. Additionally, crucial steps were dispersed across various locations within Okta’s help site, demanding consolidation for enhanced clarity and efficiency.

To address these challenges, the documentation provides comprehensive insights into how the feature functions for different user types and offers best practices to ensure that those requiring passwords for sign-in continue to use them. Rather than providing intricate navigation for each step, I’ve streamlined the content to focus solely on the necessary settings for configuration. I’ve included cross-references that direct users to detailed documentation for specific configurations, reducing verbosity and avoiding content duplication.
